Sportsman GEN4000DF

Sportsman generator reviews - GEN4000DFDual fuel generators are our personal favorite since they are much more flexible than conventional gas generators. They offer you a choice between two fuel types: gas and propane.

This gives you longer total runtime and results in long-term savings. That’s because propane is cheaper and also environmentally cleaner fuel.

Sportsman GEN4000DF is a very popular and efficient dual fuel generator.

Switching between gas and propane is very easy. All you need to do is push the button.

The 212cc motor delivers 4000 starting watts and 3500 running watts of power.

Its powerful enough to run popular electric tools and appliances.

Some of these include:

Work tools

  • Bench Grinder
  • Circular Saw
  • Breaker Hammer
  • 1 HP Air Compressor
  • 10″ Table Saw

Appliances

  • RV Air conditioner (11,000 – 15,000 BTU)
  • Refrigerator & Freezer
  • 1/2 HP Sump Pump

The generator can runs for up to 10 hours on a full 3.6 gallon tank of gas.

One single propane tank should get you a similar result at half load.

The generator features the standard set of commonly used outlets:

  • 4 x 120V outlets
  • 1 x120V RV outlet
  • 1 x12V DC outlet

The regulator hose kit is included in the set.

The generator operates bellow the 69 dB noise threshold.

While we couldn’t call this generator loud, there are definitely quieter gens than this.

However, if you need a generator for home backup or jobsite, the sound is definitely not gonna be a major concern for you.

Overall, if you are in a hunt for an inexpensive solid dual fuel generator, the Sportsman GEN4000DF might be the ideal choice for you.

Where to Buy It?

I’d recommend to get it from Target. They offer free standard shipping and are known for excellent customer service.

Another popular option is Amazon.

I’d stick to these two retailers as Sportsman generators can be hard to come by nowadays in brick and mortar stores.

PROS
  • Dual fuel
  • Good run time
  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to set up
CONS
  • Not very quiet

Sportsman GEN2000

Sportsman GEN2000The Sportsman GEN2000 is a small size portable generator suitable for powering one single major electric tool at a time.

You could also use it for powering a few small devices simultaneously.

Its 2000 starting watts and 1400 running watts are just enough to run things like:

  • Breaker Hammer
  • Rotary Hammer
  • Chainsaw
  • Portable Heater (50,000 BTU)
  • RV AC (11,000 BTU)
  • Refrigerator

The engine has got a low-oil shutdown mechanism preventing the generator from getting damaged in the event there is too little oil in the engine.

The motor is EPA certified meaning that you can use this generator in most of the US states (with an exception of California).

The gas tank has got a total size of 1.2 gallons.

The generator can run for around 9 hours on a single full tank depending on the load.

It would be a bit shorter if you run it at full power for long periods of time.

The generator is not very loud – the noise level stays well below the 70 dB threshold.

On the other hand, the inverter generators with the same wattage are much quieter (and smaller) than this.

But if it’s an ordinary cheap open frame generator you’re looking for, then you can’t really go wrong with the Sportsman GEN2000.

It is very solid gen usually selling for less than $300. Check the latest prices on Target and Amazon.

PROS
  • Cheap
  • Solid build

Sportsman 1000 watt Inverter Generator

Buffalo Tools Sportsman 1000 Watt

The Sportsman 1000 is a very small and compact inverter generator.

Weighing only around 25 lbs it’s one of the smallest and most lightweight generators you can find.

It has 1000 starting watts and 800 running watts of power.

While you certainly can’t expect such a small generator to run anything larger, it would do its job just fine powering some chosen electric tools.

This generator is an inverter type. This means it produces the clean sine wave and is, therefore, suitable for running sensitive portable electronics.

You could safely use it to charge laptops, phones or cameras.

The generator is both EPA and CARB approved. Residents of all US states can use it without problems.

I’d recommend this generator to whose who need a small generator for camping or moderate RV use.

If you are looking for a cheap inverter generator, than you could take this Sportsman generator into account.

On the other hand, if you can afford to shell out around $200-300 bucks more, you can buy a much better inverter offering twice as much power like WEN 56200i or Westinghouse iGen2200.

PROS
  • Small
  • Cheap
